Teacher reads from manual:
“Once upon a time there was a woman named Abigail who was in love with a man named Gregory. Gregory lived on the shore of the river and Abigail lived on the opposite shore. The river which separated the 2 lovers held man eating alligators. Abigail wanted to cross the river to be with Gregory. Unfortunately the bridge had washed away so she went to Sinbad, a river boat captain, to take her across. He said he would only if she consented to go to bed with him preceding the voyage.
She promptly refused and went to a friend named Ivan to explain her plight. Ivan did not want involved with that situation so Abigail felt her only choice was to accept Sinbad’s terms. Then Sinbad performed his promise to Abigail and delivered her into Gregory arms. When Abigail told Gregory about her escapade in order to cross the river to be with him, Gregory cast her aside.
Heart sick and rejected Abigail turned to Slug with her tale of woe. Slug, feeling compassion for Abigail, sought out Gregory and beat him brutally. Abigail was overjoyed at the sight of Gregory getting his due.” End of story. As the teacher I, Ruthellen Herzberg, was instructed not to give any values clues. This story left the students confused and it left me angry! I considered it pointless teaching.
My instructions were to collect the students papers. I have since learned that these papers are put in files and used by counselors and teachers.
