On the very last page of this 1899 Public School History textbook by David Montgomery lists the very first program of the study of the mind in Public School. Way over a century ago....here is my quote to the introduction of this first study titled, “Blaisdell’s Physiology” Our Bodies and how we live: teachers manual: How to teach physiology: A text Book for high school students and teachers. The matter of this book is fresh and new (1899---but now 2016)

“This book is eminently teachable, interesting and the language is true and suggestive. Consequently the clear ideas strike home at once and stay in the memory. 448 pages. The author combined qualifications seldom found together. The practical writer, the man of physician and the man of science. Special emphasis is everywhere laid upon what is of prime importance.; personal care of the health. The author gives many practical suggestions growing out of his medical experience that can not fail to be a benefit to his pupils.

The book provides simple and continuous experimental work throughout the courses which can be performed with little or no outlay for apparatus (tools for performing) in experience. All of Blaisdell’s books comply with State laws which require the study of alcohol drinks, tobacco, and others for the life bodily. In brief, Blaisdell’s Physiology is pointedly written of matters students in our public schools should become familiar with. (to be continued) ....
