The Libertarian Party of Delaware has taken an opposing position on the Common Core Standards

WHEREAS public education has always been primarily a local and state function, with the Federal government providing no more than 7% of all funding;

WHEREAS the overwhelming bulk of intrusive regulations and reporting requirements nonetheless emanate from the US Department of Education, requiring countless dollars and man-hours to be diverted from our classrooms to satisfy bureaucratic “accountability”;

WHEREAS the curriculum standards known as Common Core are being promoted by the US Department of Education as the basis for what amounts to a national curriculum enforced by high-stakes testing that has no research base to support its effectiveness:

WHEREAS Common Core itself is the product of political ideology rather than sound educational practices or research-based design;

WHEREAS the teachers in Delaware classrooms are being required to advance the Common Core agenda rather than using their best professional judgment in educating our children;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Libertarian Party of Delaware opposes the imposition of the so-called “Common Core standards” as well as the requirement for high-stakes testing on those standards, and advocates for a return to real local and state control of public education via parents, teachers and school boards.

Wow finally a political party in Delaware standing up to the Washington D.C. assault on local control of public education. The time has come to end the two-party gridlock in America and Delaware.
